Bits & Pieces of our Lives           July 2006

It's hard to believe I haven't written here since May.

The hairpin article in Interweave Crochet magazine. We're pleased by the response we continue to receive from people and shops. Some days seemed absolutely swamped with projects and orders.

The creek's song finally got through to us and we were able to spend some relaxing time down there swimming and cooling off. We were surprised at how warm the water was since there was some serious snow fall in the mountains in late May. It was the stretch of hot weather in the upper 90s, even topping 100 a couple days late June! Unusually hot for Oregon. Driving past the strawberry fields you can smell them baking in the heat.

This past week we spent a couple days helping our son and d-i-l paint, move, and clean. They found a place to rent that's only six country miles away. We're thrilled they're so close-by. A great biking distance. It's a small "grandmother" house next to a huge hop farm and only a short distance from a clear running creek. It'll be a great place for them when their first baby is born in October.

We've gotten a jump on the fall. Ed split and stack a cord+ of oak while the birds tried to defend the pie cherry tree I was robbing. Four hours of picking and pitting yielded about 4 quarts which were then dried. Bagging the dried cherries this morning it seemed that it was a lot of work for only 4 small freezer bags of cherries. It is worth it, we love them in baked goods and hot cereal.
