Jenkins Journal
August, 2007

August seemed a good month to take care of much needed facelift to our living room and kitchen. We had no idea orders would be picking up at the same time.

No slacking off for us. Just as we began the house work the first five days of August brought in multiple orders.

The stove, sink, table and chair are outside, a campstove set up on the front porch for cooking. We've ripped up old carpet, painted walls, laid down plywood and new flooring, tore out cabinets. In the evenings this week Ed rewired the kitchen and put up the sheetrock. Still to be done is sanding the mud, more painting, installing the cabinets Ed made in June. Life is topsy-turvy.

Rerouting wires.                                       Faith checks out the new floor.

Ed makes all the products we sell, hand-turning the majority of items on the lathe. Each piece is labor intensive. He spends long days on his feet, sitting only when he's hand-carving the hook heads. Still he has the drive to single-handedly lift each sheet of plywood or sheetrock and bring it in the house. He's very quick and thorough which means other people trying to help only slow him down. There's no staying two steps ahead of this guy, it's more like "move". I am impressed at how he is able to drive himself and accomplish so much despite a messed up back that affects his sciatic nerve. At times it flares up so badly he had to lift his leg with his hand yet he rarely complains.

We're thankful for the beautiful summer we've been having. Mild days with clouds and sun. Perfect for the work to be done.
