Jenkins Journal
December, 2007

Thanks to all the people and shops who have kept us busy with orders these past few months! We never dreamed there would come the time that orders would be backed up by almost a month. At times it's been hard to slow down enough to catch our breath. Especially for Ed who has been standing long hours at his lathe, or carving hook heads. With the advent of our small knitting needles production stepped up even more as orders pour in for these needles that are perfect for knitting lace.

In October Ed took the time to develop a better join method. He designed and fashioned an end piece which smooths the transition from hook to cable. He's also been on the hunt for a better, more flexible cable.

When one person does all the work the pressure to continually produce high quality items can be tremendous. Periodically Ed hits a day when his turning mojo disappears and there's not a thing he can do to retrieve it. He's hit such a day a couple of times. Today is one of them. Ed is by no means a clumsy man. Never has been. His motions are fast and efficient with little wasted time or motion. Not today. Ever have a day when things do not stay in your hand? Yep. Knitting needles diving to the floor, gouges slipping with gravity, sandpaper escaping downward. Ed finally gave up. There is simply no use in continuing to botch work when things just aren't cooperating. Not only does nothing get accomplished, except for working up a fit of exasperation, it gets downright expensive to keep messing up. Tomorrow he'll most likely be back in full swing. Just wish the weather was decent enough for him to go fishing but with the torrential rains and high winds, the rivers, creeks and ponds are not conducive to fishing.

Faith turned 1 in October. She's walking and trying to say words. We recognize "Kitty" and "what's that" but only she knows the meaning of the rest of her words.
